HOW IT WORKS: Each chef prepares an appetizer, main course and a dessert for guests, judges and sponsors. Each evening features secret ingredients that the chefs must incorporate into the dishes.
Behind the scenes: Chefs arrive at 1705 East at 9:00 a.m. the day of their competition. They learn the secret ingredients upon arrival and must have menus written by 10:00 a.m. Chef teams are required to surrender all electronic including cell phones, tablets and laptops to the chef refs until the end of the competition to maintain the integrity of the competition. Guests and culinary judges will vote on each course to decide which chef that evening advances to the next round.
WHY: All event proceeds benefit Overflowing Hands and A Place At the Table as both organizations are passionate about fighting food insecurity in our local community. Overflowing Hands is a 100% volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization serving the most vulnerable children in our neighborhoods, across the United States and around the world. Resources are used to support communities in a special, personal way by providing food, clothing, camps, and leadership development to children. A Place at the Table is Raleigh's first pay-what-you-can cafe and they are reinventing how we feed our community. One in seven residents in Raleigh are food insecure and one in five children go hungry. Overflowing Hands and A Place at the Table are honored with the opportunity to help make sure kids are not going to bed hungry.
A special thanks goes to Rocky Top Catering for their invaluable partnership during the pandemic and for sponsoring Cooking for the Kids! We are excited about our continued partnership and commitment to serving kids and families with healthy meals.
